This week’s Raahgiri Day had different elements to jazz up the usual Sunday morning. The cold weather hardly made a difference to Bhopalites, who started gathering at the venue from as early as 6am, despite the morning chill. With more than 5,000 new registrations, this time too, the venue was jam-packed. Alok Sanjar, MP, was also seen promoting fitness and grooving to Bollywood songs.
He also worked out on the gym cycle on the stage, encouraging people to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
The roads were filled with people, cycling, skating and making the most of the winter chill. Many cyclists were spotted performing stunts, entertaining the crowd. Apart from the regular morning joggers, Bhopalites had come equipped with badminton racquets, footballs and cricket bats and were seen playing on the less crowded stretches. Venkatesh, a city-based DJ, shared with us, “This was my first time at Raahgiri. On my friend’s insistence I came here and I really think it’s a good concept where you have people from all walks of life, focusing on their fitness and health.” Pryog Group, a group of artistes who perform nukkad natak, also entertained the crowd with their act. There was also a lot of music in the air with the crowd dancing to the beats of Zumba.
